The guest at our breakfast this month was our diocesan Suffragan (assistant) Bishop of Tewkesbury, the Rt. Rev. Robert Springett. He told us a bit about himself - he would have been born in Birmingham, but his parents moved to Essex a couple of months before he was born, so he came into the world in Chelmsford, where he grew up and went to school. After ordination, he was a priest in charge of a parish in that area for a time before he was appointed Archdeacon of Cheltenham and subsequently Bishop of Tewkesbury.

He said he enjoyed that post as it's his boss, the diocesan bishop of Gloucester (Rt Rev Rachael Treweek) who has to do much of the admin things like attending the House of Lord's, his role is more like that of a parish priest's, having care and responsibility for looking after people in various categories in the diocese, including Lay Readers, and chairing the Education Board.

He then spoke about the need for the church to reach out in mission and linked that to the current diocesan vision 'Life' with it's tag line "I have come that they may have life and have it to the full"
(John 10:10).
